Community Fridges and More

Be part of a Good Food Movement…

Fighting Food Waste Together

We run pop-up Community Fridges at two Ongo community hubs in North Lincolnshire and at Wilderspin National School Museum. These provide affordable food to those who need it, whilst bringing the community together to tackle climate change and hunger through reducing food waste.

Supported by Hubbub in partnership with The Co-op.

Zero Waste Food Hub

We are expanding our Community Fridges through opportunities to learn about affordable, sustainable and healthy food, with support from Hubbub and Starbucks.

Through participatory food making and community dining events, we are providing skills to boost confidence and chances for the community to come together. There’ll also be ‘food for thought’ around sustainability and the action everyone can take. Together we can make a difference!

Did you know, an astonishing 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted worldwide every year? This isn’t just a waste of valuable resources; it also adds a lot to the greenhouse gases that are causing climate change. Surprisingly, the production and consumption of food are responsible for about 30% of all the carbon emissions globally.

In the UK by itself, we get rid of a staggering 6.6 million tons of food waste from our homes annually, and nearly three-quarters of this food is still perfectly good to eat. For the average household, this means more than £700 worth of food going straight into the trash every year.

Food Clubs

At our Zero Waste Food Clubs, our goal is to take surplus food and turn it into delicious meals while also helping to cut down on food waste. It’s all about learning and sharing cooking skills together while doing our part for the environment.

Food clubs are a place for communities to gather, enjoy good food, and pick up important life skills.

Want to stay in the loop? Join the Zero Waste Food Club group on Facebook for updates, plant-based recipes, tips on reducing food waste, and saving money.

#EatYourPumpkin

Last Halloween, a terrifying 22 million pumpkins were set to go to waste, meaning around £32 million worth of food would end up in the bin. Eat Your Pumpkin events are there to help everyone to make the most of their pumpkin, save cash and the valuable resources which go into producing our food. Pumpkin saving is lots of fun too!
